Singapore MICE Industry Builds for Future

Singapore’s MICE sector posted record growth last year, reaching S$32.8 billion in total tourism receipts with business events contributing S$2.3 billion, according to the latest industry data. The destination retained its status as the Top Meeting City in Asia Pacific for the 23rd consecutive year in ICCA rankings and was named the Top Meeting Destination in the region for 2026 by Cvent.
Officials say the focus now is on maintaining that momentum by addressing three core areas: staying competitive today, building capabilities for tomorrow, and positioning the city for long-term success. The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) has introduced two new initiatives aimed at helping organisers and delegates.
One programme, known as the Singapore Attendance Building Consultants (ABC), connects event planners with trusted partners in new markets. It will begin with five partners in China and expand to other regions later. A second initiative, called SHINE, brings together 22 hotels focused on business events. This arrangement offers organisers and delegates preferential room rates and exclusive privileges, which officials hope will encourage longer stays.

Organisers often prioritize reliability and connectivity alongside venue availability. The STB notes that Singapore’s established infrastructure as a business hub provides a stable foundation for these efforts.
Upskilling the Workforce
To ensure the industry can handle future demands, authorities are investing in human capital. The STB and the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) have developed an Industry Digital Plan. This plan provides practical guidance on digital tools for the event lifecycle, including AI-powered planning and customer engagement platforms.
The Singapore Association of Convention & Exhibition Organisers & Suppliers (SACEOS) has been running training sessions for professionals. Last year, the group trained nearly 600 people through certification programmes and executive education. A new incubator called BEInspired is also supporting homegrown event organisers with mentorship and seed funding.
Officials emphasize that digital solutions are only effective if the workforce knows how to use them. The STB and SACEOS are working to ensure the talent pipeline remains strong through initiatives like the Singapore MICE Development and the Singapore MICE Challenge, which bring students and young professionals into the sector.

Infrastructure and Sustainability
Long-term plans include a proposed Downtown MICE Hub. The development aims to expand the city’s capacity to host larger events downtown while allowing complementary activities to take place in multiple venues nearby. Officials describe the project as an integrated development that combines event facilities, accommodation, retail, and dining.
Sustainability is another key focus. Since 2022, all six purpose-built MICE venues and more than 80% of SACEOS members have achieved recognised sustainability certifications. The STB and SACEOS are now launching the next phase of the MICE Sustainability Roadmap. This phase will expand beyond environmental goals to include social and economic targets.
Singapore has built its reputation on adapting to changing market conditions. Over the last 15 years, the city has transformed into a major platform where industry leaders and partners collaborate to shape the future of business events.
