Odisha is positioning itself as a leading force in India’s tourism growth, with plans to attract international travelers, strengthen local economies, and generate employment for young residents. Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida revealed details of the 7th Odisha Travel Bazaar (OTB), scheduled for October 3–5 in Bhubaneshwar. Organized jointly by the state’s tourism department and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), the event will feature 92 private exhibitors, foreign tour operators representing 27 countries, and buyers from 32 Indian cities. More than 6,000 pre-arranged business meetings are anticipated during the three-day gathering.

Parida highlighted Odisha’s approach to tourism development, which centers on adventure tourism, homestays, and hospitality services. Under the “Think India, Think Odisha” branding initiative, the state aims to establish itself as a premier destination while ensuring broader economic benefits. The event will also function as a hub for youth-focused programs, including skill training, entrepreneurship support, and investment opportunities, aligning with Odisha’s broader economic goals.

The state’s tourism strategy deliberately targets smaller-scale operators to distribute revenue more evenly. Parida noted that earnings should extend beyond major hotels to include tour guides, drivers, local artisans, homestay providers, and small businesses. This approach seeks to create culturally rich, immersive travel experiences while supporting a more inclusive economic structure. The emphasis remains on leveraging Odisha’s heritage and traditions as key selling points for visitors.

Unlike many tourism-driven states that rely heavily on large resorts, Odisha’s model prioritizes homestays and community-based tourism projects. The upcoming OTB will serve as a critical test of whether this alternative approach can successfully draw both investors and tourists.
