Marriott to Open Three Hotels in New Zealand by 2029

Marriott International has signed an agreement with CP Group to introduce three new hotels to New Zealand, marking the country debut for the flagship Marriott Hotels brand and the Autograph Collection. The development is projected to add 335 rooms to Marriott’s portfolio in New Zealand, with the first properties expected to open between 2026 and 2029.

Conversion and Renovation Projects

The Rotorua Marriott Hotel will launch as part of a conversion of the existing Arawa Park Hotel Rotorua. The building will undergo a full 12-month renovation before opening in late 2027. This deal represents Marriott’s inaugural foothold in the Rotorua market, a region renowned as the traditional cultural hub of the nation.

In Auckland, the Official Auckland, Autograph Collection will transform a historic building on Eden Crescent in the central business district. The property will feature 82 rooms and open in 2028. It will become Marriott’s fourth hotel in the city, focusing on a high-end, design-led boutique experience that reflects the distinctive character and history of the structure.

Fable Wellington, Autograph Collection will repurpose a historic 1940s office building on the corner of Lambton Quay and Stout Street. With 118 rooms, the property is set to open in 2029 and will add to CP Group’s portfolio of five Fable hotels across New Zealand. This project illustrates the strategy of reimagining existing structures into modern luxury accommodations.

Strategic Market Expansion

The signing follows a recent announcement regarding a St. Regis Queenstown project, indicating a continuing relationship between the two companies. The new hotels will broaden accommodation options across New Zealand’s North Island, ranging from geothermal environments in Rotorua to urban centers in Auckland and Wellington.
